Sorry, I'm not in a position to evaluate the evaluation process you
are referring to, to see if it makes any sense. There is no reason
a colorimetrically based linearisation system can't work well, it's
just not the easiest or most reliable approach to use. [It seems
like marketing driven stuff to me, rather than something that is
justified technically.]
The logical approach using a spectrometer, would be to customize
the wavelengths used for each particular inkset. This should then
be even better than standard density readings in regard to
signal to noise ratio. Use (for instance) just the bands that
vary by 90% as much as the most affected band for a change in a
particular colorant level.
