I am not a professional photographer, my hobby is photography.
Probably "a wannabe advanced amateur" would describe me best.
The key pieces of my equipment are: Nikon Coolpix camera, Dual G4,
23" Apple Cinema, Photoshop, EPSON Perfection 2450 Scanner and
EPSON 875DC Printer (this printer is same technology same ink as the
1280, just smaller max. prints - as I was told recently by an Epson
rep
at the Photoshop World in Miami ).
My main problem is color shift between my monitor and my prints.
Probably my need and priorities represent a very large number of amateur
photographers with the desire to achieve decent print quality on their
inkjet
printer. Due to it's probably much larger size, this group is likely
to represent
at least as large a market in $$$'s as the super-high quality
professional
market for color management. (Just a guess.)
To take the first stab at expressing this group's need, I modified Peter
Baumbach's excellent list of priorities for this type of users as
follows:
1. Close match between monitor and print.
2. Cost in the range of $40-$70 - (probably some iterative software
solution
but, no $300 color meter device!)
3. Neutral grays in color photos (clouds, stones, walls...) and neutral
b&w
photos.
4. Smooth tonal scale with a "photographic" look.
5. Clear and complete documentation.
6. A consistent way to re-print an image.
