Its difficult to bundle an add-on that costs more than the machine you bundle
it with, its not a very salable bundle. For RGB inkjets, any printer under
$1500 would be overshadowed by the EyeOne cost, for CMYK PostScript lasers, that
figure would be $3000. A better bundling ratio would be in the 10% to 20%
range, not the 50% to 500% range. This same issue has plagued RIP developers, as
wide format printer prices have dropped over the last few years. Its not
"would you like fries with that?" anymore when the fries cost more than the meal.
Gretag Macbeth's sea-change to selling affordable monitor calibration
colorimeters instead of only more expensive spectrophotometers was probably
percepitated, in part, but the reduction in cost of monitors, and the tough cost ration
that caused.
I've seen a number of bundle offers by dealers for PrintFIX ($299) with the
Epson 7600 ($3000) and would expect to see similar offers bundling it with the
Epson 4000 ($1800) when that ships.
