Hope not to annoy anyone but I wonder why there are only RGB readouts in
CameraRAW: isn't it the era of color management? If I chose an RGB
destination, why can't CR offer me the choice of a Lab readout as well as
RGB? Why only restrict me to RGB? I am trying to correct the gross
underexposure of a child's portrait and I am thinking in my head "what's a
typical Lab value for a typical child skintone"? That would provide me with
some numerical guideline to correct the exposure of that image because if I
strictly go by the histogram, I don't get what I want. Sure, I can always
open the image "as is" in Photoshop in whathever profile is currently
selected (sRGB, ProPhoto, ...), adjust the image visually until I get
'believable' skintone and then look up the RGB value so that I have some
guideline for the future. But I would rather have the convenience of device
independence in CameraRAW, wouldn't you? And why not Lch while you're at it,
Mr. Adobe.
Anyway, long story. It's getting late. Hope you remember me, Mr. Adobe, when
you come up with the next version of CameraRAW, which I hear is going to be
incorporated in Photoshop 8 now?
