Peter:
I seriously doubt that the problems can be directed to the NPS or NPL film.
We scan negs pretty much all day long, and the Fuji emulsions seem to scan much
the same as Kodak negative film. Since the masking is different, the
prescan will of course require a different tweaking on each film.
An operator scanning neg film faces much the same circumstances as a darkroom
tech making a C print. Easily identified colors, such as blue sky, green
grass, flesh tones, clean whites, etc provide a guide to make a good print, or
a good scan. Sunsets, which can range fom magenta to red to orange, or
subjects taken through a microscope, or even artwork, all provide a challenge to
obtaining a good scan, without a guide print.
Regards,
Wiley
