Hi Marco,
First off, I think you must be referring to Pantone's "Hexachrome" printing
process.
Second, you don't necessarily need a six color (CMYK+OG) printer like the
Roland to proof Hexachrome offset printing, you simply need a proofer+paper
combination that can accurately simulate the Hex offset press profile.
What you need is:
1) A way to create custom multi-channel ICC profiles if you don't intend to
use the Hex profiles supplied by Pantone. Both Gretagmacbeth's ProfileMaker
4.x and Monaco offer software options to create multi-channel profiles.
2) A proofing RIP that can, at least, accept Hexachrome profiles as the
source/press profile and possibly use Hex profiles for the
destination/proofer if you intend to use a six-color device like the Roland.
I don't know if the GMG RIP qualifies (it may, I just don't know). I
personally only know of a couple of products that will accept Hex profiles
as source and/or destination.
Regards,
Terry
