Thanks JM Shen,
Iqueue (140) is foremost, a 'God sent' -- I would not want to live without
it. It is a Color Server whose function is to convert various image and
postscript file formats into a specific color space. It beauty is in the
manner it performs this task. It has the means to allow you to assign
different ICC profiles *and* rendering intents to each 'type' of element
within a postscript file. My InDesign files are exported to pdf (1.3) and
run thru an Iqueue automatic queue (thus the name) to convert the file into
the destination color space of whichever device I would like to sent it to.
After processing, I can preview this file in Acrobat by 'changing the color
management' tab to the specified profile.
Usually, I create the profiles myself and instruct the 'keeper of the
device' as to how to image the file -- usually by turning off any/all color
management. In acrobat you just instruct the software to do "Same as
Source/No Color Management" (Is this was the setting used to print your
targets for profiling)
I like to use the Eye-One and ProfileMaker ColorPicker to read 'custom'
requested colors and save them as 'tweaked' custom Lab Colors for a specific
profile. Iqueue will, in turn, use this profile when it encounters those
custom colors and convert them to the device colorspace with not more than
+-2 Delta E (usually 0). I produce a different lab file for each
profile/device I am going to convert to.
Some like it for volume, I prefer it for knowing that I am producing files
EXACTLY the way I want them to be and not needing to rely on 'the device
operator' for Color Management/Matching. In addition, I get no surprises
when it comes time to image the file because I have the profile for the
device, thus allowing me to 'see' what I am going to get, before I get it.
Hope this little bit helps,
Cedric Briscoe

First, any printer you buy, DO NOT buy the Phaser 7700. Search the list for
reasons.
For print quality, print the PhotoDisc Target on 200g paper in your witness,
and if you do buy, be prepared for calibrating it at least t.i.d., and
things not just stop there.
However, I'm interested in your iQueue flow, "Final files are almost always
Source Program > PDF > IQueue > Printer."
Does iQueue (let me presume it's 140) drive the 7700 directly? IF not, how
do you set the print driver dialog especially the color tab? AND I believe
if iQueue can't drive the 7700 directly, you'd have to print within Acrobat,
so what's the use of iQueue? Please enlight me and sorry for my ignorance.
Lastly, have a look at the Xante.
Thanks,
JM Shen
