As far as I know, this behavior is not a part of CUPS on OS X, but
some rather some Apple utility.
Trying to 'fix' this on the Gimp-Print side is a double-edged
sword. If the driver PPD files are automatically matched to the USB
hardware then the setup process is significantly simplified (I am
referring specifically to auto-matching, not auto-queue-creation).
I don't think this is something that we want to 'fix' by hobbling
the PPDs in some non-standard way. If a problem exists when
multiple drivers are available for the same hardware then the
author of the auto-queue-creation utility needs to address it (that
would be someone at Apple). Of course, I would be more than willing
to offer suggestions if anyone with the means to fix the problem
were to ask.
OK, maybe we should discuss this offline.
