Hi dee ho,

Chromix also uses top of the line spectrophotometers and software.

I'd be interested to know what the paper/ink combo was. A lot of the profile vendors are using the same if not similar hardware and software. There are a number of variables to making a good profile; what printer was used? was the profile for RGB or for CMYK? What substrate was the target printed on? Did it have a "texture" to it? What is your workflow? If the profile was CMYK, what RIP were you using and what are the workflow settings in the RIP? What separation parameters were used if it was a CMYK profile? etc etc etc.

I bet Steve would LOVE to see samples you output from the two profiles as I happen to know for a fact that he's pretty obsessed with accurate color profiles. You should contact him and offer to send him a couple of samples.

Price is determined by supply and demand. I've seen some cheap profiles that are exactly that, cheap, and others that worked OK. I'd be pretty surprised to find that another vendor's RGB profile printed to an Epson (or like RGB inkjet) out of Photoshop is going to yield better results than one supplied by Chromix. The same results, maybe.

But then again, I'm often surprised when I say things like that. So there's my "out" as it were.

Hi,

I have had several profiles built by Chromix and they were excellent.
However, when CD Tobie was doing this, his beat out the Chromix for color
accuracy in one comparison. Recently I had profiles built by
Infinite-editions.com and by Chromix for the same ink/paper combo and the
Infinite editions profile was a bit better and half the price. They use a
top of line spectrometer and software, but I can't remember the specifics.
Cheers,

Tom Andrews
