OptiCAL Native setting

Using OptiCAL 3.7.5 on my La Cie 19 IV, Mac 10.2.8, DDM, there is the option
of setting the Whitepoint either Native or a specific setting, (6500 K for
me). What is the difference? What factors determine the proper setting?
Rechecking the eletronic manual was not helpful. I notice that when switching
between the two setting, the native setting apprears a little brighter. Thank
you for your help.
Carlos
