That is because 100% black as defined in the Source is converted to four
color black in the Destination (in the Canon). No wonder black text looks
bold. It's actually toner smeared around the center letter forms. With
device link profiles, 100% K stays 100% K between the Source to Destination
conversion. A very desirable feature indeed.
