Title: RE: Monitors for educational Labs (New Zealand)
Hi Peter,
Regrettably, you will not find a more cost effective LCD than the Apple 20" Cinema Display right now. The Eizo is a better display but far more $$. I also found the Formac 20" to be way too bright for color management and also found annoying color casts. The Formac has a very narrow viewing angle as well. The Eizo has the best viewing angles and the Apple Cinema is next best IMHO. The Sony Artisan 20" (GDM-C520) CRT is running about $1700 with colorimeter and some find the better contrast ratios significantly advantageous to their work. I don't mind the lighter black on the ACD 20 but some hate it. Check the Apple LCD display prices again after MacWorld in Jan.
All Best,
Steve

Monitors for educational Labs (New Zealand)
I have been asked to recommend a displays for the next set of mac labs
that will meet our color reproduction needs. Around 20 - 25 machines.
We are looking for something in broadly in the price range of the old
apple 17" LCD. From my experience in our other labs I liked the color
performance of the apple 17", sadly the apple 20" LCD costs $1000 NZD
more each than the 17".
I have a 19" Formac Gallery on evaluation but don't like it. After the
monitor is profiled* photoshop displays grayscale images with a very
strong magenta cast in the deeper tones. This does not happen with our
profiled* apple 17" LCDs that we use.
[*Gretag i1Display and eye-one match 3.0, - 6500K/2.2Gamma/140cm2]
Any suggestions for monitors down in New Zealand or Australia? Prefer
LCD but considering CRTs still as an option.
Thanks for your help
