On the profile creation side, Profile Maker and Monaco are merely
comparing measured data to the reference file and creating a LUT....this
CMYK will result in this Lab off this device. There's no need to iterate
that as everything is concrete.

If one were dialing in an inkjet printer toward a target (simulating
another print process) the situation becomes ...this CMYK result in this
Lab off this device, but I want the target Lab, so lets alter the CMYK
until the Lab of the printer results in the Lab of the target...so an
adjustment is made. Remeasureing to determine how well that adjustment
worked and tweaking it for accuracy is the iteration.

So iteration is not really applicable to stand alone profile creation,
but it could, perhaps, be made use of in a device link. I can't go into
why Profile Maker or Manaco don't do this for their device links, but as
you may have seen there are strong opinions as to whether it is
necessary or beneficial. GMG uses data very specific to the printer
being used to begin the process (the underlying model if you will) and
they only support specific printers. A lot of research went into
optimizing their iterative process for each supported printer, so maybe
this plays a role.
