Well, that doesn't sound fun at all. Here are some things you can try.
- Launch System Preferences, click Displays, click Color. This is a
list of display profiles. Click "Show profiles for this display only"
to get a smaller list. Click Generic RGB Profile...the display colors
should change at this point. One of the profiles in the list is the
one created by the system at startup time based on info from your
display, often called the "factory profile", it'll be named something
like Color LCD, or Apple Studio Display, something that sounds like the
name of your display. If you can't tell which one it is try ColorSync
Utility to reset your display to the factory profile.
- In the Applications folder, in the Utilities folder, launch ColorSync
Utility and click on Devices. You'll see Scanners, Cameras, Displays,
and in that a list of your display devices. Select your display, and
some controls will appear to the right. By the label "Current Profile"
there's a triangle, click that and select "Set to factory". At this
point the display color should change at least somewhat, and the path
displayed for the current profile should be something like
"/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays/Color LCD-4270AC0.icc", the
important part being that it's in the Displays folder.
