Just to add our 2 bits.
.icc vs .icm - we always use .icc as the extension. The profile can pass back and forth between our customers' Macs and PCs and will still correctly be recognized as a profile on each platform (except OS 9, see below). We coach our customers on the fact that some older Windows systems & apps may want to see the .icm extension so if their profiles don't show up it's a pretty easy fix.
As David Tobie mentioned, a while back Michael Stokes made the welcomed decree that Microsoft would use .icc and the sanctioned extension from then on. I have not see any overt signs that it has occurred but then again I haven't seen signs that it hasn't... and I guess that's good news...
As for .zip vs .sit we are trying to move to "zipping" all the profiles we send out. Apple has officially sanctioned support of zip in Panther and Macs have had the ability to unzip files without any additional software since at least OS 9. The problem is with OS 9 users who will get the type & creator stripped so ColorSync ignores the profiles... I always hated that...

Steve
