Much depends on the gamut of your scanner output and the color bit
depth of your captures. That's for editing and archiving. The other
aspect is how your edited images fit into your inkjet colorspace.
Do you need accuracy where you might choose RelCol as an output
rendering intent vs. a *possibly* more pleasing but less
color-accurate intent such as Perceptual?
Some tools that will help you decide are the demo Measure Tool, a part
of GretagMacbeth's profilemaker package, and/or ColorThink. I don't
own either but have periodic access to both. ColorThink allows you to
graphically display your image data as it fits into your working,
output, or other space. That directly would answer your question.
Decisions regarding working spaces are most intelligently made when
plotting data for your specific images.
