I've done exactly that. The bright yellows are way outside Adobe RGB, but so are pretty much all the dark saturated colors.

I've made scanner profiles that match the reference data to an average delta-e of around 1.2 and a worst delta-e of around 3. The HCT target contains colors that are outside the Adobe RGB gamut by >15 delta-e...
