It likely means that your data has been "clipped" and all detail has been
lost from the highlights. Generally, not a good thing. Take an image in
Photoshop and play with the levels adjustment and watch what happens to the image.
(Also try the neat trick of simultaneously holding the Option key down [Mac]
[?Windows?]. You'll see when you start to clip the image.)
