I've been doing a lot of reading about ColorSync recently, one thing I
cannot find much about is workflow and how to handle particular images with
their attached profiles. Especially ones that you have no idea of their
origin.
I have calibrated the screen the the Lacie Blue Eye calibrator.
As I understand it if I start with the following:
o Digi pic (camera attaches sRGB IEC61966-2.1 profile) or
o Scan original flat or tranny
(scanner attaches the SF_R (UMAX PowerLook 1100) profile) or
o Receive a digital image from an artist (with or without a profile)
I can open them in PhotoShop, as I've set PS up to alert me if the "wrong"
or different profile is attached. I've setup PS to use Adobe RGB (1988) as
the default because it has a wide gamut.
At this stage do I discard the embedded profile and use my adopted default?
Or do I select a particular output profile here, one for an Epson inkjet,
CMYK Press profile, or CMYK Laser profile? Or are these profiles just used
when the final output is done?
Then what happens it I put the PhotoShop CS file with embedded profile into
and application such as InDesign CS? Do I leave the embedded profile or
select the default one in InDesign?
If anyone knows of a good book or a link these workflow procedures I'd
really appreciate it.
Best wishes Peter
