In principle, nothing. Just need to design the right calibrator.

I am going to pleade my ignorance here and play the devil's advocate.
If, because of today's CRT-oriented instruments, a good gray balance cannot
be achieve on the ColorEdge, then, following the same logic, I don't see how
a good gray balance can be done any better on an Apple Cinema Display or any
LCDs?
Otherwise, could it be that there's is something inherently special about
the ColorEdge that make it difficult to achieve a good gray balance on?
One thing that isn't clear to me, still, reading the manual, is what gain
amplifier controls are there on this monitor? It seems that there are only
color temperature presets (like with dirt cheap monitors) and fine tuning
the white point is only possible after the fact with those 6 color controls?
I have a call in Eizo tech support but if anyone know the answer to this one
I'd sure like to know.
