Jim Rich, always helpful, has informed me he is testing an Eizo Color
Edge CG21, which looks perhaps better than the Apple Studio display,
which seems to be most people's favorite LCD. It happens to cost in
the neighborhood of $2,600.
Is anyone using LCDs as their basic monitors and which are they?
I've been using the Eizo Flexscan more than a year now. Great monitor
but complicated to calibrate. I tested the Eizo ColorEdge some weeks
ago, and its so much easier to calibrate. To get a good result on the
Flexscan I had to test around a lot to find the best gamma setting, the
ColorEdge doesn't seem to have that problem. I run it at 2,2 and I get
an even, smooth grey ramp.
Compared to the Apple Studio Displays, I think that the ColorEdge has a
clear edge. The only monitor where Ive seen better results is the Sony
Artisan, which is better in the rendition of the darkest parts. Apart
from that, its a close match. And you still have the advantage of the
LCDs.
