The Gretag software will handle the HCT target.

I wouldn9t normally recommend a Velvia target for Provia film and vice
versa, but at a push it will work better than nothing. Kodachrome is a
different animal altogether and needs it9s own specific target. Apparently
there are targets available, but I9m not sure of the quality or from where
you can obtain them.

I9ve not found any real issue with ICE and IT8 calibration. So far as
scanning software goes you can use NikonScan but turn their colour
management system off. Some users prefer VueScan other SilverFast.

should it be done) with the HCT targets?

There is no reason why it shouldn9t be done with the HCT target. In fact Don
Hutcheson has his own tutorial describing how to optimse the gamma and
workflow. If you9re going to stick with the Nikon software Dons workflow
might be the better option.

BTW: the HCT target is hard to beat and well worth considering.
