I came up with a neat trick for digital cameras when setting up the lights for
even target illumination:

I've been thinking about the problem of even target illumination, and I'm wondering whether you
could use Photoshop (PS) to tackle this problem, in addition to using your approach.
Take 4 shots of your target at 4 different orientations (rotate target 90 degrees between shots);
Open the images in PS, rotate 3 of them so they all have the same orientation & stack them as a
background + 3 layers;
Change opacity of top 3 layers to 25% (so contribution of each layer is the same);
Flatten image.
Now I'm not 100% sure about the technique in PS for combining the 4 shots (I'd appreciate some input
from the PS experts on this forum) but I can't help thinking that a combination of images like this
will help in evening out the lighting. Of course it's not perfect e.g. if the edges are less
illuminated than the centre, the composite will still have this problem. A simpler approach of
taking 2 shots of the target, 180 degrees apart (&, in this case, setting the opacity of the top
layer to 50%) might be easier to try.
Any comments on this approach? An value in it?
I'm not in a position to try this myself as I'm still using generic camera profiles.
Regards,
Alan
