Alan,
I do not know how PS will handle it but it sounds reasonable although I think
there is not necessarily a need to go that far.
If there is only one light source at 45 degrees and it is 2 m away and the
target is 300 mm wide, the light intensity in the center would be 90% of the
edge value. With two light sources on opposite sides, the error is a small
fraction of that.
By bringing in the light sources a little so that they are more perpendicular to
the target, the difference gets even less.
