- What are the suggested camera targets
ColorEyes 20/20 is a very good camera profiling package. It can be difficult to light the target evenly. All the corners must be within 4 points RGB and within an L* value of 2. If you can get in this kind of range you will make an excellent camera profile for your D2H. I worn you it is not cheap.

Gretagmacbeth is still refining their camera profiling software. I have been expecting a new version since October 2003. If you are shooting RAW files and getting a good white balance to use during image processing in Photoshop CS or the Phase One RAW conversion software, you will get better results than making a custom profile using the Gretag color checkers. The color checker is great for verifying white balance but not so good for making a camera profile. Not enough color patches on the regular checker and the DC seems to have some metamerism problems in some of the patches. I am sure once GretagMacbeth works out the problems they will release an outstanding product for us all to use. The anti gets upped every time another color management product is unveiled.
I have not tested FijiFilm's ColorKit yet. It comes with it's own target as well and supposedly deals with uneven corners better than the others. I believe this one is in the $400.00 to $500.00 range.
There are some $200 to $300 dollar range camera profiling plug-ins for
Photoshop. I have not tested these either but I believe they use the
Gretag targets. That pritty much sums up how acurate they will be. You
can get okey profiles from these types of packages but the profile you
make may only work for 60 or 70 percent of your images. It depends on
the colors in the original subject.
- Is it practical to use the small 4" x 6" scanner targets?
Scanner targets don't make very good camera profiles.
