Well, rather than ignoring the message because you don't like the messenger,
you could pour yourself another cup of java and explain to us the advantage of
having multiple windows with Prefs, Profile First Aid, Devices and Filters.
If you did so, perhaps Chris et al wouldn't have to write yet another book.
Better yet, perhaps you'd realize that the interface is a disaster and needs
to be fixed. The book will then be easier to read and can focus on more
important things, rather than wasting a chapter on how to deal with the ColorSync
Utility user inyerface.
I can't see what advantage there is in having more than one open window with,
say, Profile First Aid or Preferences. The advantage to 3, 4 or 5 open
windows with Preferences?? Escapes me.
Someone commented that they like the multiple windows to compare profiles.
Fine, but plotting only works for "installed profiles." Using Open to open a
profile doesn't allow one to see the Lab plot (or the other variations). Which
leads to another small inconsistency. The black triangle in the plot usually
indicates a mechanism for revealing/hiding content, as it correctly does to
the left, in the profile list. In the plot area, it's used not to reveal/hide
the plot, but to change what's plotted! Yet there's no indication after making
the selection with this black triangle as to what's plotted. And by using
the Profiles pane instead of opening the profile with Open, you can't see the
profile tags, data, size, and description information that you otherwise get.
Without actually opening a profile, one would have no idea that this
information was available and could in fact be modified. It took a long time before I
discovered that you can double-click on a profile in the Profiles pane to
open it into - you guessed it - yet another window, and that you don't have to
use the Open dialog. Maybe I should use the old Windows approach more often
- just blindly double-click on everything in sight to see what happens...
But I digress. What's the advantage of having multiple Profiles panes open
at once? I can have multiple (individual) Profiles windows open, showing tag
data but not plotted, and I can then have multiple ColorSync document (?)
windows open and click on Profiles to show multiple plots - but only if I go
through each window and find the profile in the Profiles pain - er, sorry, pane.
This stuff should be better integrated. Unless there's an advantage that I
(and others) aren't seeing... it appears that very little thought was put into
the ColorSycn Utility interface.
