Under OSX, double click on the profile, which will launch the ColorSync
utility. Scroll to the last entry (localized description strings) and enter
the name and save the profile.

That I don't know. I know Adobe does something like you are describing (if
I'm understanding what you are requesting) but separating their profiles in
Application Support (in their Adobe color folder) whereby you can show and
hide some profiles based on the advanced settings in the Photoshop color
settings dialog. That is also how they separate their supplied profiles from
all others. I'm not sure if there are some private tags being used as well
as a separate location.
