Hi Carl -
I use the Fuji Finescan 5000 here. My attempts to profile have also
been somewhat frustrating. There really is no way to get the scanner in
a "raw" state, I think.
I have had no problem using the scanner by using "Fuji Absolute......"
profile in the acquire setup for flat scans. Scan everything including
B&W in color. Use Channel Mixer to convert to B&W.
I would suggest not using the processing part of the ColourKit
software. You can turn off the processor in the prefs. Just acquire the
image, it will reside in the Profiled Images folder of ColourKit. Open
the file in Photoshop and convert to your working space. Most images
will show a histogram with empty space at both ends. Carefully edit the
levels to bring up the highlights and shadows and go from there.
PS....When an image in Fuji Absolute Space is open look at the default
back/white color selectors. The white is not white but more like
227,227,227. That's why I always convert to a "normal" working space.
Good luck,
Barry Rudick
