I am about to start a job scanning a large number of negatives (Fuji 35mm film) and am wondering how others approach the issue of a source profile. I am aware that there is a negative version of the IT8, but I don't have it and wouldn't have time to acquire it before starting (I'm also not sure that it's supported by either Monaco Profiler or GM ProfileMaker..though it is for Fuji ColourKit I believe).
I have heard from others that assigning sRGB to the negative scans is beneficial as the gamut is similar to negative film. I've tried this and the results were acceptable...since I don't have prints, I don't really have a reference as to what the final scan should look like as one would with positives. I 'm fairly comfortable with adjusting the image to a natural looking photo, but does anyone have any other approaches regarding the source profile that have worked well?
