Technically it's still not RAW (RAW is RAW, it's a Grayscale file). I think
you're suggesting you're getting a linear conversion which may be useful
(I'm not willing to say it is or is not). But we should be clear that you're
still getting some kind of RAW to RGB conversion albeit a linear one.

I'd agree that it's probably better to build a custom profile on top of
linear high bit RGB data than ACR however.
