Short answer is to convert in Photoshop, and place the separated file
into QuarkXPress.
There are two main issues with QuarkXPress color management:
1. It only honors embedded profiles in TIFF. Beware using tagged JPEG
files with QuarkXPress because the embedded profile will be ignored in
favor of an assumed profile.
2. There is no black point compensation available for conversions.
Since the content originator doesn't have control over rendering
intents, it would be up to the production people to determine the
appropriate rendering intent. Their choices are Relative Colorimetric
with potentially clobbered shadow detail due to the lack of Black Point
Compensation; or perceptual which means you're at the whim of an
unknown, undefined flavor of rendering (at least until the whole ICC v4
thing is more widely adopted and has proven itself).
