I did a 10K patch profile a few times for a 2200 and yes, there's an
improvement but I used the iCColor which did the job in an hour. 12 hours
and I'd be hard pressed to go that route. It's certainly not night and day
but yes, you can see some improvements but its impossible for me to tell you
it's worth YOUR 12 hours of scanning time! The profile is also HUGE since
the spectral data is in the profile. So expect a 5mb profile or there about.
There certainly is a point of diminishing return past the Atkinson designed
TC9.18 RGB target. Depending on the paper, you might actually find a better
profile using 5 samples of 918 patches than one sample of 10K patches. Don't
know (the iCColor does a fair amount of patch averaging).
Unless you can pay a monkey or somewhat intelligent teenager to do the work,
you might want to stick with the TC.918 target. But to answer your question,
there is a difference.
