Subject: Print Spooling Software

I have been a long time user of Best Color Software which I really like BTW,
Recently I have found for my business fine art printing (Giclee) that to get
the best results in regards to CM workflow is I either have to convert from
workspace to printer profile in PS and print through best color with cm
turned off, or I have to print direct from PS CS to a Best Color Queue with
CM turned off to. I don't mind printing from PS CS but my only complaint
with this is PS does not save the last print state that I use to print a
specific job like what profile did I use, rendering intent and the all
important Black Point Comp setting. Best Color does not do BPC yet. There
are some work around they offer but they do not work into my workflow. In
the fine art printing business what happens is I print a job maybe three
sheets, then I will not print it again for another three months. So I need
to be able to be able to go back to a job from three months earlier and
print it again with all the same setting.Best Color Handles this well, but
they have no good options for taking a job off the system and then being
able to restore it months later. Makes sense it's a proofing rip. Print job
once then delete it. So after being in business now for four years, I still
can't come up with a good workflow solution. I love the concept of using a
rip, for maximum control over my Epson 10600 printers but there are some
workflow drawbacks. Best Color has it's own soft proofing, PS does it's
thing and of course the soft proof never matches between Best and PS. So
this brings me to maybe what I need is just a good print spooling software,
do all CM in PhotoShop and just use Epson's Printer Driver and make RGB
profiles using the TC9.18 RGB target and Profile Maker 5. move away from
RIP/CMYK.
Any suggestions out there what I may look at. I really need Photoshop's BPC
to get the best looking prints.

Steven Kornreich, you Spoiled, Spoiled, Spoiled man, you. <smile> You are
using the Best Image Editor, the Best Printer(s) and the 'Best' (literally)
Rip.
Take a deep breath and say, "A-cuna-ma-tata". And whatEVER you do don't
change your almost PERFECT workflow.
In BestColor, create a queue for each of your Fine Arts Papers, with
specific Resolution. Use just the BaseLin with your Queue and keep CM off.
So lets say you now have a queue for Epson's UltraSmooth Fine Art Paper @
1440dpi
You, of course, will build your profile on top of this baselin.
Now, in photoshop edit in your preferred working space (mine is always the
scanners space and I just do one conversion at the end to the paper profile)
When you are finished, convert your image w/BPC and your preferred RI to the
paper profile of the BestColor Queue. And drop it in the folder. Do NOT
embed the profile in the image.
Now, saving for future prints; I would HOPE that your Queue will stay there
and its named (folder) describes the paper/print settings. That being the
case, add the paper and resolution to the file name when you save, e.g.,
EUSF.1440 (Epson's UltraSmooth Fine Art Paper/1440dpi) or use FotoStation
Pro by FotoWare (I use it and am quite please with its ability to manage
lots of images large w/ color management (they use Gretag's engine) for
preview. At the very least, FotoStation will allow you create folders for
each paper profile type and you drop your images there and still provide
any/all addition information about the image that stays with that image.
Just to be safe, I would patch the profiles with Profilekeeper with ALL of
the information completed to keep your profiles and baselins associated.
