PhaserMatch is at v3.01 it IS based on Monaco's software. I have only used
it with the 7700. On the 7700 you can create a custom profile for the
printer itself (using whatever software you'd like) and a device link WITHIN
PhaserMatch to a simulated process. ON the 7700, the results are sorted in
the PPD file as a postscript CRD and on the 7750, the results are downloaded
to the printers harddrive for future use/storage. This is a TRUE DeviceLink
(believe it or not) It does NOT work with/on RGB data (Device link is
CMYK-to-CMYK [in this case]). If RGB data is sent to a custom Tekcolor
Devicelink, it is ignored and converted with one of the printers internal
RGB converter tables (OC_sRGB or OC_VividColor), which are hardwired in the
filmware.
Of note the software WILL allow you to calibrate the printer with the
devices listed below and create a profile with an included IT8 (if ya really
wana) or you can search for your own custom profile and use it.
I personally would not use it for editing the profiles (that's just me) but
the software does do what it was intended to do; which is simulate other
CMYK process on your Phaser using a true device link (with option to
preserving black and primaries.
The following devices are supported:
GretagMacbeth Spectrolino/SpectroScan
GretagMacbeth Eye-One System
X-Rite DTP-41
X-Rite DTP-22
SpectroStar
The Xerox team have created a process or set of curves INSIDE the printers
firmware that will take an Office Document (RGB) and make an almost PERFECT
simulation of the screen (including out of gamut custom RGB colors). I have
been trying to recreate that process for the last two weeks. For the
Micorsoft Word Proposal bunch (an there ARE a bunch) they want to select
those nice on-screen custom colors in the app and get what they see when
they print. Try to recreate THAT on another CMYK device. (I think it has
something to do with magenta and overall lightness:I don't know)
