I would like to see the demise of EPS files for these reasons:
1. Placed EPS files in quark are NOT color managed, unless one uses Compass
Pro, or Iqueue or Autoflow.
2. Nested EPS files create chaos - placement become erratic or completely
random.
3. Fonts are not embedded in EPS - so often missing fonts are not detected.
I find it best to place PDF files in Quark - color management works, and
fonts are embedded, and nested images are placed correctly.

We use Photoshop eps in Quark documents in order to preserve data when
postscripted. If you place a cmyk tif or jpg into Quark and inadvertently
print rgb (or vice versa) it will be (very poorly) converted into that color
space.
Also we use dcs2 files sometimes if a print job requires interaction between
4c and spot, eg. a black or 4c drop shadow that needs to print over (or
under) a spot color.
BTW, are there alternatives to dcs2 files for 4c + spot Photoshop files?
I find them a little annoying.
Thanks!

P.S. Is there some kind of industry push toward getting rid of the eps
format? Sometimes when I mention that I use eps files I get these emotional
responses from people from Adobe like I'm dabbling in Satan worship or
something.

I've always wondered about this myself. Someone alluded a ways back that EPS
was quickly becoming a legacy file format. Aside from the reasons Cedric
mentions about the EPS containing additional processing instructions, is
there any reason to favor EPS over TIFF? Their view files create nicer
looking previews in Quark, and better low-res proofs, but other than that is
there any reason to use them?
