If you want to do spectral matching, you won't be able to do it with the
present generation of ProfileMakerPro or any other colorimetric-based
profiling packages out these, today and in the foreseeable future. There is
a host of papers published on multi-spectral imaging you can look at. Some
museums have implemented such a system with great success. But, as of yet,
there are no commercial offering that I know of. You could build such a
system on your own from scratch. It's quite interesting but it will require
a great deal of instruments and tools and maths before you get to your first
multispectral image. But you'd be surprised how close a match of any
painting the system will get you to -- below 2 delta E, typically and the
match holds for ALL illuminants since it does not rely in metamerism.
As for evaluating your dCam profile, I would look first at the lab values
you get in Photoshop once you've assigned the dCam profile. You don't want
to base your assessment on a combination of how well your printer profile
renders your colors because you won't be able to separate the error that
belongs to your printer profile from the error that belongs to your dCam
profile.
