Ain't that grand! Yes, I see that sometimes it's definitely monitor RGB, at
least with Preview. As I just posted, GamutWorks does find and use the
"default" profiles in the CS utility to preview images. The other odd thing
is that this area of the CS utility preferences say it's for untagged
documents but when Photoshop is set for the ColorSync workflow, it does find
and load these profiles as the preferred working space. That's how I'd
expect Photoshop to work but I think the labeling in the CS utility isn't
clear in such a case.

I'd buy that or at the very least, do what they say they are doing in the
ColorSync preferences (use that selected profile).

In this case, it seems the vendor is Apple since they wrote Preview. That's
very scary and odd.
The OSX white paper didn't provide much information. Then there's the Apple
Pro Training series book (color management in Mac OSX) which I think is the
book John Z mentioned awhile back. Got that yesterday, not much more about
what's going on with ColorSync and Panther other than what's been said thus
far in the GUI of the utility.
And where's the text on Quartz Filters?
