First, it takes much longer to postscript for some reason, often more
than 6 times longer. If I'm working on a large file, say anything over
300mgs (when uncompressed), this can make a big difference.
Secondly, it takes up much more space, often 10-20 times the amount of
space. This means more disk space to hold these files, more transfer
time if they need to be written somewhere, and more media to archive them.
I just did a test. I have an eps saved with "maximum quality" jpeg
compression. It is 62.4mb uncompressed and 2.4mb compressed. I put it
into an ID2 file and postscripted it. The postscripting took less than a
second and the postscript file size is 2.5 mb. I opened the same file in
ID CS. The postscript time was over 10 seconds and the file size is 42.9mb.
My last concern is a general uneasiness over what has been done to the
resulting postscript out of ID CS, ie. is it changing the resolution,
color or some other attribute of my file? I've never had time to test
these things and I was hoping Adobe could explain some things, but
they've been pretty unresponsive, and I think the listserve I'm on is
mostly for designers; they don't seem to very familiar with the service
provider end of things. By the way, do you know of a listserve for
service providers? Colorsync users is the closest I've ever found.
Thank you for your concern.

I haven't tried this and its quite possible, so much has changed between 2.0
and CS (3.0). But why is that a problem for you? What kind of hardship does
it create?
