Yes, top end packages from both Gretag and Monaco do this (ColorBlind has
some functionality here as well). It is seldom what the end user actually needs,
but in cases where several distinct primary colors are used (usually CMYK plus
a few others that are *not* light versions of the color already noted)
through an N-channel RIP it may actually be the appropriate choice, though complex.
For light component printers (too numerous to list, but the Epson 7600 is an
example), or the new added primary RGB driver printers (Epson R800, Canon i9900
are the first) this route is not necessary. RGB or CMYK profiles are used for
these.
