It appears that in the few tests I've done, monitorRGB is what's being used
although John Z did say something about ColorSync using a "Generic Profile".
I can't get the color appearance to match when I use that verses using my
display profile so I think you're on the money here in what is being assumed
for untagged documents (MonitorRGB) but there are so many oddities in how
all this is being handled, I'm not 100% certain this is the case.

Is there any clear cut case when usermonitorRGB is being used verses
"Generic RGB"?
