Bruce,

Generic RGB Profile.icc is the default profile for untagged RGB images on Panther. Its primaries allow for blue skies and red apples. By using this as the default, all untagged color will be consistent across all Panther machines.

My understanding is that sRGB will remain the default for untagged 8-bit/channel RGB. (Which since the vast majority of untagged 8-bit/channel RGB IS sRGB, seems an entirely rational choice, sRGB limitations notwithstanding.)

I'd love to hear a rational argument as to why usermonitorRGB is a better default for untagged RGB than sRGB. If you assume sRGB you at least have a hope of achieving similar appearance on all machines. If you assume usermonitorRGB, which seems to be the current case, you guarantee that the file will look different on every machine. That does not seem a desirable color management outcome...

So, is Microsoft taking the lead as far as color management is concerned
these days? How come the Apple web site does not have such a wealthy section
on color management (as MS does) and, yet, you were there way before them?
