If a printer changes from film to CTP and suddenly can't match supplied
proofs, its not the proof's fault. The proofs are still just a valid as
they ever were. The printer probably needs to adjust their dotgain
curves in their CTP Rip if that's the case. That being said, the
Approval isn't a dead on match in any scenario I've seen.

For your sake, you could see to it that your Approval matches a
standard, such as SWOP. See the Kodak Approval application data sheet
at www.swop.org density and dotgain recommendations. But again, from
what I've seen, even matching the recommended target specs I get a delta
E of 3-3.5 to TR001.
