Additional primaries do expand the gamut in certain zones, given that you
have a RIP and profiling system (or a driver, but not for custom ink choices)
that can take advantage of the added colors. With weaker gamut inks (such as
pigments) you will see the increase more quickly than with wide gamut inks like
dyes, where it will show mostly in bright, vector defined, spot colors, wioth
only modest changes to photos. In return, you will lose smoothness and photo
quality in the lighter areas with the removal of the light C&M inks. Adding a
light black is only practical if your RIP can factor in light and dark components
on the black channel.
