Probably not as the hue angle of the light inks are in most cases the same
as the non-dilute inks. Thus gamut doesn't change in any significant way if
the crossovers are correctly mapped from normal to light inks giving smooth
transitions yet maintaining smooth transitions within the gamut of the ink
set and media combinations.
So it's true that the issues of the light inks are lesser of an issue today
as the droplet size has come down to a size that allows a contone effect
without resorting to light inks.
You'd be best to ask for some print outs though to see if the dots then
would be acceptable for your viewing distance, as if it's smaller format
prints such as A4 then there may be peppering in light unsaturated tones. I
also think you'll see more moire patterns depending on the dithering alg. In
the printer screens that are less apparent with light inks.
