With all due respect, I heartily disagree. One reason is that I have
waited ten years for page design software to appear that actually
worked, after endless workarounds based on QuarkXPress, the Digital
Zone XTension, the Helios XTension, LogoProof, BatchMatcherPS and
iQueue. Another reason is that I will be dead and gone long before the
ICC adopts a gamut mapping technology which is dynamic in the sense
suggested above. And a third reason is that at this point the page
design, the proofing and the printing people are so far behind in
technology and in understanding that perfectionism (and listening to
myself saying that sounds strange -:)) is misplaced.
It is always possible to find another excuse for not putting the pedal
to the floor, the ink control systems on presses aren't good enough,
spectral matching isn't supported yet, D50 is not as suitable as D65 in
some workflows, there are simply too many bugs for the workflow to be
sustainable, and what have you. I'll take my chances and everyone else
is welcome to a hearty laugh, but hey, at least it'll have been taken
for a spin and not left in the garage to rust -:).
Thanks,
Henrik
