You don't mean to say that there is something special about the presence of
those chips on Epson ink cartriges that is responsible for the fact that GM
Profiler4.15 is not giving you as good profiles as Epson's own? What if you
stay within the same ink batch? Does the quality improve?
For the record, I've compared the prints of the PDI target obtained through
ImageRIP with those obtained through Epson's own RGB driver using Epson's
canned profile and I found that nothing comes close to the quality of the
prints obtained through ImagePrint. So much so that I don't see how someone
in their saint mind would buy a 2200, today, without also buying an
ImagePrint RIP or some other kind of independent RIP, like ColorBurst or
BEST DesinerEdition. It's just asking for trouble otherwise, in my
experience, as profiling the Epson driver, in RGB, through NCA, be it with
the help of TC9.18 or PrintOpen or Fuji or Monaco, and I suspect any other
profiling packages, comes out to the same exercice of futility / frustation
/ waste of paper, ink and time. And I don't believe it is a function of the
quality of the measuring device. I'd invite other List members to share
their experiences profiling Epson 2200 in RGB through Epson's RGB driver.
It's just never worked for me. And each time, I had to resort to using
Epson's canned profiles which I believe don't give out as good quality as
can be out of this printer and ink. Sad but true.

So, you're on Windows.

ANOTHER set of choices for profiles!
Presumably if you print through the Epson Pro Stylus RIP you are able to get
better results out of GM Profiler4.15 custom profile *if* you profile as a
CMYK device and set the Kgen such that no black is emitted. Then, the Epson
RIP will be free to separate the incoming CMY as it pleases. That's a theory
that worked for me on other Epson printers in conjunction with the Epson
Stylus RIP.
