Hi,
imagine a situation: company has 5 the same color printing devices
(large format inkjet printers - Canon W7200). Could you suggest
a procedure to linearize all of them to match each other?
Standard procedure of linearization (described in manual of the RIP -
XITRON Navigator 6.02) doesn't help in this case. There are small
differences in color behavior that are not acceptable for a customer.
Sylwester,
It sounds like you need to measure the linearization target after you
linearize each printer.
One test of consistency is to rerun the lin target after each linearization
to be sure the targets tones are visually distributed well.
Another test is, after you linearize you can measure the steps in the lin
target to see if each printers output measures the same values. I would
suggest using LCH or LAB.
If the results are inconsistent then you are chasing your ink jets. Call the
vendor to find out their specs and to verify if the printers are working
correctly.
If you believe the printers are outputting the same targets the same way,
then, create ICC profiles for each device. Using the profile for printing
each printer should produce prints that are similar in appearance.
Next, you need to verify that the printed results from each printer is the
same. Use your test images.
If you do that and the results are slightly different between each of the
five printers, but are consistently different, then you will have to
manually edit that particular printers profile to match the other printers.
