Roland ColorChoice RIP and custom ICC profiles

Guys,

I've been asked to profile a Roland 500 using the Colorchoice RIP.
Apparently (according to the marketing blurb) this RIP comes with a range of
ICC profiles which according to my client isn't good enough.

My question is whether the linearization features on this RIP is any good,
which instruments are compatible (Eye One, DTP-41 or what have we) and
whether the RIP supports custom profiles (or just appear to).
I seem to recall that some years ago there was talk about the Roland
Profiles containing some secret sauce stuff that made it impossible to
profile directly, or use regular ICC profiles. Any hints are welcome at this
stage...

Best Regards,
