I've got a budget of about $2,500 for the RIP.
The 120nr works with the HP rip on LAN's with Panther and G5's with
apparently no real trouble. There is in some cases a missing 501 folder on
the Mac for the host printer but is a easily fixed problem and one that has
only occurred on some very specific set ups.
The HP rip V3.2 works perfectly here on Panther and on Windows 2000 and XP,
networked via simple Ethernet 10/100 Tbase switch.
Don't count on multiple users though but rips are not often set up with user
switching in mind.
The HP 120 is dye based inks with a very extended gamut. It is very fast and
efficient on consumables.
The quality on the HP is very good, image quality has always excellent.
Profiling is easy accomplished with the Gretag i1 combo as well as
ProfileMaker or any other profiler package.
Be aware that the dye set requires controlled lighting to validate proofs.
