Should I upgrade?
Hello Steve (et al),
I apologize for the delayed response, but as everybody watching the
colorsync list knows.... I have been on vacation for the last week. Anywho,
the latest version of MonacoPROFILER is version 4.6.1. I would say that - i=
f
you have version 4 or less - you probably want to upgrade. From 3.2 to 4.0,
there was a substantial core update in all branches of the application. In
other words, you will see profile quality improvements in print/scan/and
display branches. Specifically, saturated color rendering, tonality
smoothness, and shadow detail rendering were improved.
Once you get into the "4s" the changes are more feature related. There have
been big changes in the editor. Fine tune tools let you target grayscale
color recipes AND selective color recipes. A new white-point editor allows
you to get even more precise proofing output. A forward table editor allows
you to =B3tweak=B2 image preview properties as well as image output quality. In
the latest release, we've included Gamutworks - a nice application for
evaluating images and profiles. Lastly, there have been a number of "little
things" including quality tuning on saturated red-orange color rendering,
small interface changes (to make Proof and Profiler look more alike),
default black generation curve improvements, device presets for popular
device types, and enhanced perceptual rendering controls for gray mapping.
Whew! If you have version 4.5, you have most of this. If you want Gamutwork=
s
and some small quality enhancements, the cost is $200 to get to 4.6.1. If
you've got a 3.x version, the upgrade would cost more, but I would say that
it would yield a big difference in output quality.
If you have more questions about the product, please let me know on or off
line.
Best regards,
Marc
